Title: Slime Tire Liner Reviewer: Eric Osborn (ME) Bikeman Product Code: RS4550 The Skinny: Slime Tire Liners stop, or at least greatly reduce, flats from glass. They are ineffective against flats from large metal staples. The Epic: My commuter bike is noble public servant. It uses its tires to collect shards and metal and glass from the streets, making our city cleaner and safer for all. This service was causing one or two flats per month. I run puncture resistant tires (80 PSI, 26x1.5), and pick the accumulated glass out once a week or so, but flats still happened frequently enough to be annoying.
I purchased a pair of Slime Tire Liners as an extra line of defense. After installing the slimy green plastic strips, I decided to neglect my glass-picking routine to give the liners an extra harsh trial. I ran them for a few months, and had only one flat, which was caused by a large metal staple which punctured both tire and liner. This evening I changed over to studded tires for winter riding, and took a closer look at how the liners had performed. My tires were full of glass. A couple large pieces had worked through the tires, but were stopped by the liners. They had done their job. I inspected the liners, and I found the mark where the staple went through, but they showed no other signs of wear.
