North Carolina Winter Cup Cyclocross Series Race #5 - Series Finals Winston Salem, NC
 | | click to enlarge | The race was held at Hobby Park in Winston-Salem, NC. This race was more like a New England cross race unlike most races I've experienced in the south for this time of year. The temperature was in the low 30's and it was a light rain with a little bit of sleet. Now that's cyclo cross! The course itself was fairly short with 2 natural barriers. They had shortened the course because they were afraid it would become dangerous if the road began to freeze.
Laps were only 5 minutes long. As the race went on and the ground got torn up, the red clay became a little slick but not unridable, especially with my Tufo Flexus 32's tires. I stayed with the lead guys for the first couple of laps and realized I could not hold that type of pace for 45 mins. So I back down to where I wasn't buried in the red zone and was battling to finish in the top 10. I ended up finishing 9th and if we had another ride to go, I would have lapped a couple of guys in the back of the pack. Not bad for an old guy from Maine!
