How do you know if your bike helmet fits? Put helmet on and bend over at the waist, putting your head toward the floor. The helmet should stay on your head, not fall on the floor. If it falls on the floor, tighten the appropriate band in the back of the helmet or insert foam pads.
The front of the helmet should rest about a half inch above your eyebrows. By looking upwards, you should be able to see the front of the helmet or the visor if your helmet has one.
The side straps should form a “V” shape around your ears, but not touch the ear lobes. Adjust the straps around your ears accordingly.
The straps then fasten in a snap buckle under your chin. The chin strap when buckled should be tight enough so that when you open your mouth, you can feel the helmet getting tighter on your head. Be sure you can put your forefinger under the strap easily so the strap will is not too tight.
Be sure your helmet has a sticker inside saying that it complies with the U.S. CPSC safety standards. Be sure to wear your helmet every time you ride your bike.
Color: I recommend light colors: white, silver, or yellow. They are the most visible and reflect the sun.
Bikeman offers a great selection of helmets on-line including helmets for kids. Here is a link to our helmet selection: http://www.bikemannetwork.com/biking/c/CLHE
Happy Riding.
