The wait is over! Bikeman is happy to add the Surly Long Haul Trucker touring bike to his lineup. Complete touring bikes are hard to come by. A complete touring bike for under $1000 is next to impossible to find. The new Surly LHT complete bike fills this void perfectly and can be shipped to your door for under $1000. Sounds too good to be true? Read on for details.
The Long Haul Trucker is built, as you might expect, as a touring bike. But it does a lot of other stuff good too, like commuting, day trips, double centuries, and of course beer runs. Surly set it up with a triple crank, a reasonably wide-range rear gear cluster, and large-ish, comfy tires. Add racks and you’re ready to haul. We mean it. The frame is designed to be stable and supple fully loaded with gear. Other bikes, 'converted' touring bikes you might call them, simply don’t handle big loads as well. The Long Haul Trucker, like all our frames, is steel, because steel rides way better than aluminum or carbon fiber, and for less money. It’s got rack and fender mounts front and rear, three bottle mounts, even a spare spoke holder.
Here are some specs:
- Sizes 54 and smaller have 26" wheels. sizes 56 and larger have 700c wheels
- Ritchey logic headset
- Kalloy stem, Zoom handlebar with cork tape
- Tektro levers and cantilever brakes
- Shimano BL77 9-speed bar end shifters
- Shimano XT rear derailleur, Tiagra front
- Sugino XD600 Crankset
- Shimano UN53 BB
- Shimano XT hubs, Alex Adventurer rims, 36 hole
- WTB Slickasaurus 700x35 or 26x1.5
- Deore 9-speed cassette 11-34
- Kalloy seatpist, Velo saddle
The first run of complete bikes are in stock now and ready to go. Since this was a limited first run we are expecting these to go fast. All bikes are professionally assembled by Bikeman and then carefully repacked for shipping. Please allow for 2 extra days for this build/pack process. When you receive the bike you will need to install the pedals, handlebars and stem. Feel free to call Bikeman for any help with this assembly.
