| | Mary Longhofer: Mountain Bike
2008 RACING AGE: 45
RESIDENCE: Portland, ME
WHERE I GO MONDAY MORNING: Orthopaedic Associates in Portland, ME.
RACING DISCIPLINE(S) AND CATEGORY(S): Expert Mountain Bike
# OF YEARS RACING: '08 will make 7, with the past year being a sabbatical due to injury. I have also dabbled in years past as a competitive runner and triathlete.
# OF BIKES OWNED: Salsa Moto Rapido MTB, Salsa Campeon road, Surly 1x1 MTB, Salsa Las Cruces 'Cross bike. I hope to add a dual suspension MTB to the arsenal for '08.
FAVORITE BIKE: I love all my bikes and couldn't possibly choose a favorite. They all serve their intended purpose very well and allow me to have options and a variety of fun on two wheels. I feel really lucky to own so many amazing steeds. The Campeon was the new addition in '07 - she is one sweet, snappy ride.
FAVORITE TRAIL OR RIDE: Locally, Bradbury Mountain State Park - it just gets better every year. Others: the Portland River Trail is just a short spin from my place and is a favorite, fun, reliable good time; Kingdom Trails in VT; Massabesic in NH. I also really enjoy a nice road ride while crankin' to some CYY or my iPod. I find the road very Zen and a nice break from the abuse that the trail can sometimes dole out.
NON-CYCLING INTERESTS/HOBBIES: XC skiing, snowshoeing, running, yoga, reading, movies, music, hanging with my friends, my cat, and KU Basketball. I’m feeling more intrigued in exploring martial arts of some kind in ‘08.
PERSONAL NOTES & QUOTES: Even a bad day on the bike, is still a pretty good day. I love that sensation of clicking into the pedals and sinking down onto the saddle. When I’m on a sweet piece of single track slicing through woods, I feel invincible and a sense of total joy. I wish everyone could experience such a feeling. Life just doesn't get any better! I also really appreciate the fun, comradery, and support I feel by being on such a great team as Bikeman.com and as a part of the cycling community in Maine.
2007 proved to be a tough year as I was on the “injured list” and unable to race. I am hoping and gunning for a fun, fast, and healthy season in 2008. I've been down but not out, and in the words of Ahnold: "I'll be bahk!" My goals for 2008 are small - to race, enjoy doing so, and represent my Bikeman.com team well. If I can get in decent shape by June, I hope to podium at Nationals at Mt. Snow, VT.
With all that said, not everyone is fortunate enough to be able to ride a bike. So, racing or not...I'm just really darn glad when I can ride my bike!
RIDE ON AND RIDE HAPPY!
