NORBA NYS XC CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES #1 Plattekill Mountian Roxbury NY May, 20 2007
 | | click to enlarge | This past weekend is where the whole season begins for me. I hope my legs are starting to put out some good power as I consider this a training race for me. I traveled 90 minutes to Plattekill Mountain located in the town of Roxbury. The race itself was all the way at the top of the ski mountain where the leaves have not even come out yet. Upon my arrival I met some fellow teammates who were really friendly and top notch racers. All three guys won their respective classes.

Once the race was under way I got into a good rhythum and started working my way through the field. I started to feel good and was in a zone. Of course this had to come to an end when I sucked the branch from hell into my rear wheel and rear derailleur. This caused me to pull off of the trail, mumble some words that kids don’t need to hear, and start pulling at the branch. It was really lodged in my wheel and ate up more time than I thought possible. Luckily the FSA XC300 rear wheel and Shimano XT rear derailleur held up great (that’s 8 speed XT for all the old faithful out there). Meanwhile all of the riders that I had worked past were now motoring through. So I had to go into the deep and try passing everyone again. It was at this point that the one thing you hate to admit to happened. The big embarrassing crash. You all know the type when your heart rate is so high you forget you are on the bike and supposed to clear obstacles. Well there was a log, my bike, and then me laid out all over both of them. I was over my head in effort and paid the price. My shin looks like it was attacked by a cheese grater and my ego shot. But anyway these things did not keep me from getting up before being seen. The rest of the race went alright and I think I had a decent finish. Once I got back to my hillbilly truck I packed up quickly and split. That morning when I left for the race my 2 year old son Jacob watched me drive away with that sad where are you going look. It was on my mind all day and I wanted to get home and enjoy what was left of the day with him, his sister and their mother. With that said I had a good day and really enjoyed meeting Matt, Steve, and Art. Congratulations to all three of you on your victories. I would also like to say thanks to Lazlo and Plattekill Mountain for putting on a good race.
