Stop #1 MMBA
Camden, Maine

Opening day of the Maine Mountain Bike Association (MMBA) Points Series this past Sunday arrived and was my first not in attendance on the bike in six years. It felt pretty strange. This season I've assigned myself to be Bikeman.com team supporter as well as the MMBA series photographer (in addition to President and a few other hats). I'm still rehabilitating a previously blogged (on this site) hip injury/surgery and am not quite back in the mt. bike saddle yet.

The day dawned with rain. What a shock for spring in Maine. The trail was bone dry just one week ago but thanks to the rain Maine received over the last week and this past weekend, the trail much resembled what it did from last season - sticky mud and lots of it. I did this race last year on my single speed and it was the clearly the best choice for last year as it proved to be for this year as well.

I made the trek north with teammate, Zach Magoon, who raced. We made the trip this year (unlike last) without a speeding ticket from the Maine highway patrol. Instead, this trip, I selected (not by choice but instead by brain cramp) to leave my wallet in a gas station bathroom stop along the way.thankfully successfully retrieved on the way home (Yes - there are honest people in the world!!).

It was an interesting and fun perspective to observe instead of race. Fellow Bikemanner, Bill Turner, I know can relate thanks to being on the mend from shoulder surgery currently. I'm new to the digital camera world so this race was a learning curve in photographic blurriness between the digital camera delay and the fact that all my Bikeman.com teammates are so fast!!!

It was great to see so many teammates at the race after a long Maine winter. Not to mention such a huge fleet of Salsa mountain bikes, flashy Lazer helmets, pimpin' Lake mt. bike shoes that really work with our team kit, and Panaracer tires on the course!! There was also the faint (I mean faint in a good way as it's not overpowering!) smell of Greyhound Juice (in addition to the piney Maine woods) in the air. Ahhh yes, the sweet smell of racing yet again! As always, Team Bikeman.com riders had some strong results. For the full results, please go to MaineMountainBike.com.

And a special thank you to ALL of our sponsors including those not mentioned in this report. I may not be racing (yet), but I will again and I thank you all for all the great incentives to keep me going on the bike. Just because I can't race right now, doesn't mean I'm not training in some capacity! In the words of Arnold Schwarzenegger that are way overly quoted..."I'll be back!!"

Ride on and ride safe!

Mary
