Lava Rama Wild Rockies Race Series Lava Hot Springs, ID May 12th, 2007
The Lava Rama is part of the Wild Rockies race series and was held In Lava Hot Springs Idaho on May 12th. This was my first time racing in the expert class, and I did notice a little more nervousness on the starting line than I had felt in a while.
The race starts at one end of town, travels down Main Street to the other end of town, and then heads for the hills. The experts rode 2 laps around a 9 mile course with about 1,600 feet of total elevation gained per lap. It was hot and windy with numerous bovine spectators throughout the course. I took 8th place out of 16 finishers in the Expert 30-39 category and settled in for a soak in the hot springs across the street from the finish line before heading home.
No photos this year, I even had to get my bottle hand-offs from my Subaru that I strategically parked on Main Street. Thanks again to Matt DeMeis for tweaking the Team Bikeman clothing this year, it looks great. For complete race results visit wildrockies.com
