Vultures Knob Wooster, OH OMBC #4 5/20/2007
This course is one or the more technical courses that the OMBC series uses in my opinion. I was expecting a fair amount of mud on the course so I put on my new Panaracer tires I got from Big Al, but to my suprise there was almost no mud at all. This was not good, I had a big pair of knobby tires on prepared for lots of mud but what I needed was a pair of fast slicks for hardpack trail conditions.
Considering this I was still hoping for a decent ride at this race since I consider this one of my local courses but I was not to have that ride this day. The start was fairly quick but not a problem, I settled into a rhythm and second place.
I was on lap 3 and there is a section of the course that riders can go two ways, one more technical and shorter and one longer and easier; the part of the trail where the course comes back together has a total blind spot so you can see who is coming down the other side until you are already on top of one another. When I came to the spot where the trail came back together there was someone else coming out at the same time, so we crashed. It was no big deal but I didn’t find out until a little ways down the trail that I had a slow leak. Needless to say my race was over…boo hoo..:-)
Later,
