Place: Southwest Harbor, Maine Time: 1:00PM May 27,2007 Event: West Side Ride Road Race Distance: 30 miles
This race I try to get to every year. Its not the beauty of the ride along the Maine coast. It is the money being raised by the road race and its purpose and intent. This is a fun road race, with rollers all away around the course. There is new pavement on the backside of the course. This is much needed on the back side because in years past we have lost riders in the road cracks. The course is open to traffic though so you still have to be careful and mindful of the yellow line.
I do this race because the monies that are raised from the race go to the Harbor House. This is for kids in the local area. I believe there is a day care, arts and crafts, sports kind of like a recreation center. This is a great place for the kids, and the women that I spoke to have put there kids thourgh the Harbor House. It is a for a good cause. After what I learned about this race and the Harbor House I will be there whenever possible to do my part.
