Fair Hill Classic MASS #6 Fair Hill, MD 7/15/2007
The Delaware Trail Spinners consistently set up a really fun single-loop XC race course at Fair Hill every year. This year the Expert loop was 29 miles. The terrain at Fair Hill is fast and twisty with a generous amount of singletrack. Experts went off at 9:45A. There were 35 starters in my class (19-34). The start was a really fast grassy/dirt straightaway. It hadn't rained much in the days leading up to the race, so there was a ton of dust to contend with initially.
Once we got into the woods the dust issue sort of settled. As usual, I was sitting about halfway back in the pack when we entered the woods. I warmed up a little and was able to make it up to a couple spots in front of 9th place. The heat started to get to me at around mile 20 or so. Consequently, I was passed by a couple riders in my class. This was my first race on the new Salsa Mamasita. This bike is stealth. Seriously light and nimble. And the advertised lateral stiffness is no joke. Easily my new favorite bike. So, I have already eluded to my final result being 9th out of 35 starters. Next stop Mt Snow. I am anticipating a little pain.
