7TH ANNUAL SMASHING PUMPKINS MOUNTAIN BIKE RACE September 23, 2007 Winding Trails Farmington, CT
The season is just around the corner and I am trying to stay positive as I look for the light at the end of the tunnel. It has been a cold January but after being lazy for half of December and January I got back on the bike and laced up my running shoes to get in some quality workouts. I’ve had some rough days, as I’m sure we all have, trying to get in some miles at 20 degrees. I have been running a lot when it is too wet out to ride and have managed to stay injury free, so things are looking up.
I was feeling good about planning my preseason training schedule (and hoping I could stick to it) when I was looking at the Root 66 race series schedule and saw that a video that had been made at last years Winding Trail race was almost complete. In fact the Grind On Video Production company that made the video was nice enough to give us all a taste of the film by putting a teaser on Youtube.
The clip is pretty good compared to a lot of the mountain bike race films I have seen, plus I’m in it so that makes it great by my standards!! You can see clips of me at 1:14 and 1:45. If you look at the second clip you see that I almost took myself out on the tree and had to grab it for support.
The race was not to my liking when it came to the terrain. I prefer a hilly course to get away on the climbs. This course was flat and fast which didn’t give me much in the way of breaking off. I went out strong and was taken over by a much stonger rider within a couple miles. Then at the end of the first lap I dropped to third. On the second lap a (which is the clip from the video) the series points leader was on my wheel for the first half then he was just in my sights for the remainder of the lap until I lost him on the third lap and struggled to maintain fourth place. I took fourth which was fine with me. The competition was great and everyone had a good time. That’s what its all about. Hope you al enjoy the clip.
