Conditions: Cold and icy roads of New England.

Review: Cycling is a great sport, you get to enjoy a view of the world that many others do not. There is nothing like riding along the coast of the Atlantic as the sun set off in the distance you catch a glimpse of the waves slowly ebbing along the shore as you silently curse down the road at thirty miles per hour. It’s a great thing to be a cyclist. But that’s not what's going on in the bitter depths of winter here in New England.

A trip along the beautiful Atlantic coast leaves a rider catching a sharp cold wind that rips through whatever wind resistant apparel clever riders have clad themselves in. The cold penetrates to the bones and puts a grimus on the face of the hardest of riders. The challenge, to all of those who try to maintain their fitness and exercise their joy of riding through out the winter, it to stay warm. The thought of riding base building miles in along salt and sand covered roads, that are so cold they have frost lining them, is enough to keep most of us at home more than one day here and there.

The worst of it is in the toes and fingers. Recently a friend of mine told me he was out on a ride on what he claimed was the coldest of his 30 year riding career and he asked himself the question, once again, that most of us do: “which is worse; cold hands or feet”? Cold feet are troublesome but bearable. The consensus that my friend and I came to was that it was cold hand that hinder the rider the most. I have spent countless winter rides without adequate protection for my digits and have searched for the glove that would allow me to venture into the arctic conditions of January to build my base for the following season. This year I found them!!!

Purchased right here at Bikeman.com the Craft Thermal Split Finger Glove has saved my racing season. Really. Without proper equipment you can’t ride in the cold. It’s unbearable. The light-weight, fleece lined protection of the Craft Split Finger Glove allows you to wear a liner inside of them (I chose to discard the one that comes with them and insert a cheap but thicker neoprene full fingered glove) and have the security of carrying an extra liner in your jersey pocket in case after sweating you want to start with a dry liner. The Craft Thermal Split Finger Glove has reflective strips, a fleece thumb for wiping the ever-running nose, while at the same time it has a leather palm that goes up the thumb to prevent wear. The wrist come up the arm just enough to secure your sleeves in the glove and them clamp them down with the Velcro strap and keep the elements from getting at the wrist like many gloves allow. I have managed for the first time to ride in single digit temperatures wearing this glove. My toes were pretty cold but that’s for another article.

I would without hesitation recommend, and have been, to any rider who wants to keep his or her fingers safe from old man winter and be in shape come spring to enjoy that view of the Atlantic coast, or where ever your favorite ride many be, to purchase the Craft Thermal Split Finger Glove.
