Kona 24 Hours in the Old Pueblo The Journey. Part 1 Tucson, AZ February 16, 2008
 | | click to enlarge | Mark Logrbrinck (Tex) had sense to register early. He assembled three other seasoned Bikeman riders to compose the single speed team. In an event that creates a city in the Sonora Desert about 30 miles north of Tucson, Arizona the logistics and man-hours are a wonder. Tex borrowed a trailer. The additional space is a god-send. I'm unsure as to how many tree's were felled to supply the necessary wood inventory.
Any drive out of Southern California requires early hours and plenty of caffeine. The crossing of the Colorado River is a half-way marker. The Thursday evening edition of the Weather Channel promised traditional Tucson winter weather: moderate temperatures, unlimited visibility and plenty of sunshine. The only problem was the clearing out of a nasty storm system stuck over the Four-Corner's. The surprise of snow fall upon the four Bikeman.com riders is priceless. The early morning preparation, rider meeting, and throngs of rider's, support staff and family was energizing. Soon the day settled into a pattern of riding, eating and sleeping under the twin canopies.
