Couple of us boys from the Lost Coast got a chance over the weekend to get out and catch a glimpse look at the Tour of California. We were fortunate in the fact that stage 7, Santa Clarita to Pasadena is right in our backyard. This was the third time the event was held. This year it ran from Northern California at Palo Alto to Southern California and Pasadena.
The last part of the race makes 3 loops around the Rose Bowl before a finish. Do you think they are trying to mimic another stage race in France?
Bikeman.com team member Roger Jorgensen and myself had a great afternoon of it. We set up in the only feed zone just outside the small town of Acton but before the climb to Millcreek Summit. We scrutinized our position for a hour, waited for the breakaway for a hour and in twenty seconds the breakaway and the peleton were by us. We were bust. Our only thoughts were you can't take pictures and ring a bell at the same time. George Hincapie won the stage, Levi Leipheimer won the event and as our illustrious governor once said --- “We will be back.”
