I will begin the pictorial description of the downhill by exclaiming that I am not a downhiller. That said in the few minutes of time these skillful riders descend, only the fabled "Snake Pit" section of the course truly challenges their every synapse. Thankfully, the Southern Sierra Fat Tire Association and race director Jim McWhorter planned for every inevitable outcome.

The course marking were right on. Three arrows pointing down is fair warning from where I come from. Of course having the search and rescue team was a little over the top. But the backboard and medical kits was a reassuring sight for all the blood thirsting spectators that crowded the most technical sections of the course. Some of the riders had the equipment.

You know those behemoth downhill rigs. Others seemed to have the verve. Still others had practiced. There is nothing like trying each and every line around, over and thru the obstacles. Thankfully, I was only digitally recording these impressions, as last years scaring from the real deal has had a true lasting impression.
