I'm remiss, yet driven to post this race report. Keyesville is the old timer's retreat. That is for the classic rigid race bike of yesterday. I am in awe of some of these beauties. Some come with a pedigree, others rescued. But the image of these once cherished rigs, again racing in the dirt can bring a tear to the eye. So it is that I assembled a stable of rides and hand-picked the jockeys.
The 1981 Specialized Stumpjumper was ridden well. It's rider was a young man with hair when this classic relaxed lugged steel frame was sold. While we missed the podium, the rider was all smiles and has yet to return this now valuable ride to it's rightful owner.
The next generation Stumpjumper was late 80's. The rider a stud. He blames the ride for the crash and a nagging case of arthritis. I really miss the day-glow green fade-out pink paint and ovalized chain rings.
Next up and onto the podium was the Trek single track from the young 90's. The rider an equally young man. Placing in the short track on Saturday and in the crosscountry on Sunday.
I followed up with podium finishes in short track and cross country riding the late 80's Yeti. Remember to bring your camera.
