SoCal Cross Prestige Series #2
San Diego Cyclocross #1
Racer & Chasers Cyclocross
Anza, CA
September 19, 2009

ImageRacers and Chasers along with So Cal Cross co-hosted the inaugural San Diego Series event. The race flyer's described the event as taking place in Temecula. Actually it was closer to Ansa. The Cahuilla Creek Motocross Park was the venue. Close by was a favorite Indian Casino.

ImageMy misgiving of hanging out at an MX park was reinforced with the constant hum of race ready MX motorcycles. The air that the riders were able to achieve was frightening. Of course the terrain was all man made. Or more apt bulldozer made.

ImageThe huge water trucks made numerous passes to quench the dirt's thirst. As the day wore on the ground became softer, looser and excellent for shouldering the bike and running. The words of wisdom for the day was our Terra Firma was most similar to riding cross in Oregon (soft and muddy), except no mud would cling to our rigs. O.K. Thankfully, I have been running a bit.

ImageThe single speed race was difficult. I was determined to be lapped by the race leader. A quick bike change brought me back on course with the fast and fit Master's 55+. I did settle into a small race with a rider smart enough to be wearing his "running shoes". Well, I had the downhill sections figured out and he had me beat running on the up's. After the third lap he started to fade in his bi-ped sprints. So I managed to win one small battle. Again the Salsa cross specific rig worked flawlessly.
