SoCal Cross Prestige Series #3 Velocity Cross Irvine, CA Sunday, October 4, 2009
Southern California Prestige Series of Cyclocross, Sunday October 4, 2009. Last year we visited Oak Canyon Camp in late November. This our third event, the picturesque rolling hills of Orange County's backcountry saw huge fields.
We were treated to cool temperatures and an extended course layout. The now familiar two sand sections, the newly constructed stair-run up and bonzi drop-down, the fast pavement, one barriers group and the aptly named "Little Anza" a dirt wash section outside of the green park which was a bit technical. The Official called it a 3 kilometer course. It was an improvement over last years design.
I arrived in time to pre-ride and was ready for the One-Speed Cat 4 start. I finished three laps and changed to my geared Salsa Chili con Crosso (It must have been a large production run, because they are showing up all over).
Riding gears in the Master's 55+ changed the course. I really felt like I was racing. The only problem was the results in both groups were nothing to write home about. I did, however, finish. I bought a new cow bell, shot some race'n, had a sandwich and treated myself to a beer. What a day.
