Springville Apple Festival Springville, CA October 16 & 17, 2009
Lost Coast out in Central California. The Springville Apple Festival is an annual event held in mid-October. It is sponsored by the Springville Community Club. The festival is a family oriented non-profit, alcohol and drug free event. It attracts more than 30,000 people to the area each year. It's located north of Bakersfield and south of Fresno, California on one of the roads that will gain access to the Sequoia National Forrest.
The Fat Tire Classic part of the event is always held Sunday morning. The eight mile course consists of 70% single track, steep over the edge downhill service road, one mother of a hill in the middle, the usual push and grunt section, add some rock garden, stump jumping, drop-off and you pretty much got the picture. California was fortunate to have some rain last week so the course played just about perfect. Start time the air temp was in the high 60's, some cloud cover and away we went. There was a good turn out of racers, both young and old. Event "t" shirts, lunch and a raffle were an added bonus. No blood, bruises, or broken bones on my part so it's all still good.
