You might have noticed that our on-line store lists two 1-1/8" Chris King Crown Races, or Baseplates, as King refers to them. So which one do you need to buy? You could either break out your calipers and measure the O.D. (Outside Diameter) of your current race or squint hard at the pictures on-line to see if you can find a match. Both of these options have some merit but we bet you didn't know that King has stamped a secret code on your headset to tell you which race to use.
Look carefully at the picture above and you will see a small diamond with a letter <B> stamped in the middle. This is your secrect code. Your headset will either have a <B> or an <F> inside the diamond.
King has manufactured two different 1-1/8" races (baseplate) over the years. The <F> baseplate has an O.D. of 44.0mm. These are older headsets manufactured before 1995. The new style headsets marked with a <B> on the cup have a race measuring 40.5mm O.D. These headsets where manufactured after April of 1995. Baseplates are not interchangeable so be sure you order the correct one. If you still have questions drop us an email and we can help you out.
