University at Buffalo Criterium Series Buffalo, NY
While visiting my in-laws in Buffalo, NY I thought I'd check out the local road racing scene and take in a Thursday night crit. The course was a typical industrial park four corner circuit around the college maintenance department.
A good crowd of club riders showed up to race on a humid and hot evening. I raced with the B group which seemed to be mostly Cat 4 and 5's. I was a bit nervous before the start since I hadn't participated in a crit in a couple of years. Fortunately, once the race began I settled in and felt comfortable. Swooping around corners with the pack was great fun, in fact. Unfortunately, my inexperience and poor positioning led me to miss the decisive breakaway on the 5th lap which stayed away to take the top 3 places. But, I did Team Bikeman proud by working hard in the chase group and finishing strong in the pack. I think I just might need to find another Crit to race
