Conditions: Georga hard pack, w/moderate roots and rocks; loose gravel, over hard pack and deep sand (at Sea Otter); muddy dark soil and rooty, off camber rock shelves at the National race in TX.
Review: Mounted this set in late February and now have a total of 9 races on them.
I have used them on local hard pack, w/moderate roots and rocks; loose gravel, over hard pack and deep sand (at Sea Otter); muddy dark soil and rooty, off camber rock shelves at the National race in TX. This is a very good overall XC tire that lasts.
Aramid bead/Multi-directional design/ZSG-Ultima rubber compound/Wet or dry conditions
 Weight: Suggested 530 grams Actual 543 grams. Average of three (540,552,537)
Setup: Mavic Crossmax Tubeless Disk wheelset w/ Stan’s sealant
Dry conditions Front @ 32 / Rear @ 35 psi
Wet conditions Front @ 30 / Rear @ 32 psi
Here is the rundown:
- Handles the mud very well, but when conditions become sticky, mud packs up and some traction is lost while climbing. Cleans out well at normal speed.
- Great tire on hard pack and loose soil over hardpack. Poor in deep sand.
- Wet, rocky and rooty climbs are handled very well due to the size and semi aggressive tread design. Standing up on the technical climb is no problem.
- Rolls fast on hard pack and will hold a fast, aggressive line on edge of tread. No double steering or breaking early.
- The front tire still has the new sharp edges and the rear is showing the signs of wear mainly due to the road or hard pack local trails. Great wear!
