| | Erik Osborn: Mountain Bike, Cyclocross
2007 RACING AGE: 33
RESIDENCE: Portland, ME
WHERE I GO MONDAY MORNING: I ride my old mountain bike 4 miles to my job as an environmental engineer.
RACING DISCIPLINE(S) AND CATEGORY(S): Expert Mountain Bike, Killer B Cyclocross.
# OF YEARS RACING: Have mountain bike raced 7 out of the last 9 years, 'cross for the last 6. Have raced something involving sweat, pain, and the outdoors since high school: crew, cross country running and skiing, orienteering.
# OF BIKES OWNED: 3, plus a cargo trailer.
FAVORITE BIKE: Whichever one I'm on. I just love riding in all its forms. The bike is really secondary.
FAVORITE TRAIL OR RIDE: Bradbury Mountain is my current favorite local single track. Come fall and the end of tourist season, the carriage paths in Acadia can't be beat for long rides on the 'cross bike. I've also been rediscovering the awesome conservation land trails in Harvard and Bolton, MA where I grew up.
NON-CYCLING INTERESTS/HOBBIES: Back-country skiing, backpacking, mandolin, bike advocacy.
PERSONAL NOTES & QUOTES: Hey, have you heard of this great sport utility vehicle? You can drive it to the store or up mountains. Yeah, real freakin' mountains, not those fake plastic mountains you see other SUVs parked on in the dealer lots. It gets way better mileage than those other SUVs too: I've had one for years and I haven't had to fill the tank yet. It's really cheap. You can get a top-end brand-new one for about the cost of a real junker of a car. It doesn't pollute at all, you can always park it right at the front door, and driving it regularly will make you sexier. I kid you not. If you want one of these amazing machines for yourself, look no further, Bikeman can hook you up.
