The Chamois
Welcome to Tales From The Chamois. This is going to be an online journal taking you through my season of training for and racing marathon, 6, 12, and 24 hour solo endurance races all while working a full time job, being married with a two year old son. I'm no pro, even though I do occasionally race against them. I'm just out there having fun pushing myself. You might find it entertaining, pick up some tips or just think I'm a damn fool. Whichever it is, I hope you all enjoy. What's with title you ask? Believe me if you spend up to 24 hours in bike shorts that chamois has some things to tell. Many of you may have already seen my full blog "The Soiled Chamois”. That blog will still be there, so check it out for some links to other cool blogging cyclists and more nonsense about cycling, music, food, beer and life in the chamois. As that blog title indicates the writing there is a tad more sophomoric or I should say moronic, so you've been warned. All in good fun though. So here we go....

WEDNESDAY NIGHT, GYM NIGHT-

With the time and the weather changing for the better in the next few days I paid a visit to the gym tonight to put in an hour on the stair master and then hit some weights. Even once the weather and time change I plan to hit the gym every so many days to keep the muscles in check and help prevent injuries, at least until about May or June, then I'm putting the membership on a 3 month hiatus.

It's been a week or so since I was at the gym, but you wouldn't know it from the hurt I put on that stair master. Had it up to 85 (whatever 85 stands for, I just know it's hard) sweating like some damn fool and had the heart rate up to borderline "explode". I still love the looks I get from people when I'm on the stair master, especially the ones from the "no resulters" reading while they're on the machines. They have these looks like "Why is he sweating so much?" "He's like, breathing hard" and "Why is the pasty skinned sweaty guy with shaved legs staring at me?" (ooops, that was from the girl in the sports bra, my bad).

I gotta say, the gym did wonders to break up the winter training, but I won't miss it too much. The season is here in full force and it's time to ride. Ride the road, the trail, the bike paths, alleys, side streets, whatever, just strap on a chamois, get on the bike and ride. To steal a line from Major League Baseball "I LIVE FOR THIS!"

Weather looks good here over the next few days so I'm taking a vacation day on Friday to get a multi-hour single track ride in. If the legs feel spunky I'm hoping for 3 to 4 hours. I'd like to used this a gauge to see where I'm at and what I need to improve for the M.A.S.S. 6 hour race coming up at the end of April. I'll check in soon.

Later

Jason
