FAT 2 Fit
An early morning ride always sounds good the night before.  Plans are made, clothing is set out, and the alarm is set.  As 5:15 AM rolls around I sat on the corner of the bed pondering making the phone call...  You know the one where I come up with an excuse to not ride this morning, meaning I probably won't ride at all today.  I believe I sat on the bed for a good 5 minutes before heading to the coffee pot and down stairs to gear up.  Today was Day #1 in my Fat to Fit journey and the ride was on.

I know what you are thinking.  Haven't we seen several Fat 2 Fit posts or  Stage #1 posts....  Yes I have on more than one occassion now written a journal of my first day on this journey, unfortunately it has never really made it past the first few days.   Well this time the title reads Day #1 and that is just how I'm going to approach this from here out.  One day at a time.  There will be good and bad days but each day will count on the journey.

So where does the journey lead.  Well this morning at 5:30 AM it leads to the TSAW's appartment to hook up for a slow road ride.  I was impressed as the TSAW, clad in his Team Bikeman Kit, was standing on the curb awaiting my arrival.  I'm figuring the Saw and I are about the same fitness level.   Both of us enjoy a good donut in the morning, I know this because I reguarly see him at the D&D on the way to work, and both of us fill out our Team Kits quite nicely.  Note: neither one of us are officially on the team.  We are those posers you see wearing the fashionable race garb and doing there best to suck in the gut.  So the ride was on.

A perfect morning for a ride.  No armwarmers or extra layers needed.  We rolled along nicely out of Portland and made our way into the country.  Now this is about when I remembered the Saw's riding style.  He is the guy who does contant intervals, but doesn't know it.  He either has the gas pedal to the floor or has it in neutral just long enough to cool down the engine block.  I tried to play this game for a while but it eventually got the best of me and on the largest hill of the day at about the 1 hour 30 minute mark, I cracked.  Full on redlined and reduced to riding on two cylindars.  The Saw scampered away to the top of the hill as I labored and fought the urge for a dismount / quick rest.

This is where the theme of the Day #1 comes into play.  Just after the hill there is a large section of mostly flat riding.  I started to recover as we rolled along at what I thought was a descent pace.  This is when a very fit rider in a full team kit passed us.  No Problem... He had the shaved legs and was obviously a serious rider.  I am very comfortable with that pass.   So we are rolling along for a bit longer and a second rider pulls off to our left and cruises right on by.  Now this one was tough to swallow.   Anyone sporting the baggy shorts, tube socks, Chuck Taylors and a backpack that looked like it weighed a good 30lbs should probably not be passing two guys on $3000 + bikes.   That will be the Pass that keeps me going for a while.  I can't let that happen for long.

I definately cracked today.  I had nothing in the tank when I finally rolled into the dooryard.   I was greeted at the back door by my daughter who was full of energy, singing and dancing at 7:45.   If I could only find a way to bottle some of that energy.  After whipping up a batch of pancakes and scrambled eggs I felt human again and ready for the rest of the day.

We are in the Potty training stage here at the home of the W's.  It hasn't been too bad.  We have been using the M&M trick.  Each time she uses the potty she gets an M&M.  Good Job!  Here's one for you and a handfull for Dad...  We had an accident free day today with many trips to the M&M's.  This habit I'm going to have to kick as well if the Fat 2 Fit is to succeed.

The rest of the day went as usual, researched some Bikeman advertising options, created some new banners to publish tomorrow and finished up the newest Employee trading card for release next week.  Day #1 was a good day.   And as I write at 9:30 PM I am still excited about the mountain bike ride scheduled for 6:30 AM tomorrow.... We will see what the morning brings and how Day #2 gets rolling.

All for now,
