Chamois time has been abundant as of late. It started last Saturday with a 1 hour trainer session, a pristine 2 hour road ride Sunday and 2 hours on the Dos Niner Monday. That bike continues to impress me. More on that another time.
Tuesday brought more miles with another 2 hours on the road and some seriously fried legs. Hit a bunch of hard climbs and suffered pretty good.
During the ride all I could think about was eating dinner. Passing about 3 houses that were BBQing didn't help. I just wanted a big ass plate of whole wheat pasta, with broccoli and olive oil. That's what kept me going tonight or I would have packed it in on the first climb. This is what my life has come to, day dreaming of whole wheat pasta and broccoli. What the hell's wrong with me??
In the end I finished with 33.5 miles/2:02. Got 1 wave, 2 positive honks from motorists, 1 "go Lance" by two overweight High School kids and someone passing and yelling something that I couldn't make it out since they were eating an ice cream cone and their face was stuff with vanilla soft serve. I just smiled and waved. Beats getting a Big Gulp thrown at me like my buddy Dave.
Glad I pushed through the ride even though the legs were toast. I guess you need to do that or you can't improve or get stronger. Wednesday was time for a day off the bike to get the "mojo" back in the legs and hang out with the B-Man.
With a long weekend and the promise of some big miles looming, I plan to just do some easy spinning on the trainer tonight watching a tape of the debacle that was last Sunday's Paris-Roubaix. I cringe every time I see that slow-mo replay of Hincapie's bars coming off, and him hitting the cobbles. Followed by him sitting along the road sobbing as he watches the pack ride off. Next year George!
After some road miles this weekend I need to start planning the taper for next Saturday's 6 Hour race. I'm really looking forward to getting the race season started and seeing where my fitness is. This will be the first in a series of 3 Mid Atlantic Super Series 6 Hour races I plan on doing. Scary to think that a 6 hour race will be the shortest race I do all year. Issues.
Hope you all have a good holiday weekend and get some miles in.
Jason
