When does a 29'er not look like a 29'er.... When you have a rider over 6'5" tall and an X-Large 29'er frame. This is Steve's first real mountain bike and when it came to sizing him up, a 29'er was the perfect choice. Steve is a roadie / cross racer and understands the rolling properties that come with the 29" wheels and with his height the 29'er was an easy sell.

Steve elected to build the bike himself, with help from his buddy Matt. Bikeman did custom build the wheels for him. They are Shimano XT 750 6 bolt disc hubs laced to WTB SpeedDisc Trail 29'er rims with black brass nipples and straight gauge spokes in the rear with double butted spokes in the front. Both wheels where laced with a 3-cross pattern. Bikeman spec'ed this wheelset build for his size and the fact that he throws down some major power.
Steve loves the bike and has even tried his hand at Mountain Bike racing. His first comment after building the bike was "I still can't tell if its supposed to be a bike or a tractor!" ....Typical of a roadie who has spent minimal time in the dirt. Check out the gallery below of his build.
