What goes Round comes Round?:
Could it be that the Shimano "Computer Engineered" chainrings of yesteryear are making a reappearance?  Now I know that the BioPace rings produced by Shimano in the late 80's are as different from the new Rotor rings as the Apple II E is to my HP laptop, but at first glance there are some similarities... The shape of the BioPace ring, especially on the 26-tooth, is exaggerated in comparison to the Rotor rings but they are both trying to accomplish the same thing, eliminating the dead spots in your pedal stroke thus increasing efficiency and power.  BioPace tanked back in the early 90's but what goes around comes around and the new Rotor rings are the latest craze in the Time Trial world.  If you want some original BioPace rings, we have them. For a detailed description of the BioPace rings you can visit Sheldon Brown's page.  I couldn't have written it better so I won't try.  And here is an interesting article on VeloNews comparing the rings as well.

If you couldn't all ready tell the theme this week is elliptical chainrings and we have put our collection of BioPace rings up for sale.  The BioPace rings are available in 26, 36, and 46-tooth versions and all are compatible with a 74 x 110mm BCD.  For the retro home mechanic we stumbled upon a large box filled with squre taper crank arm removal tools.  These are on-sale now for $1.95 each HERE

After viewing our Boulder Defiant in the museum recently, Bas Hoeve sent some pics of his Defiant.  Bas is from the Netherlands and loves his bike.  Here are his notes:  "I tried to get the bike together again as it was in 91. But with nice pieces.  I got the Prototype Onza HO brakes on it, with the onza Chill Pills.  Paul rear shifter, Stringlight cracks (also Prototype) , Sycros seatpost, Ringle clamps, Gore tex cable's, Syncros Stem, Mag 21 Rock Shoxs,... you will see when you receive the other pictures.  I only took the Spengle's out and put Spinergy Wheels in because I do not like the handling of the Spengle's  The frame is a 18" first series Defiant (after the Gazelle) ,steel, black.  I bought the frame on eBay, I knew the brand from the early days, in magazine's , and when I found it on the internet I just had to buy it.  I now drive the bike frequently and really love the handling, although it is a old bike.  I have driven enough different bikes to know what I am talking about, (Serotta, Klein, Merlin , Seven a.o) , It is great.  I also like the design, it was way ahead of it's time, it is so simple.  Well, got to go,....  Kind regards. Not everything we find in the Attic is a cool old mtb or classic road part.  We have stuff from every era in both excellent and fair condition.  Take this pile of rims for instance.  I'm sure there is some cool stuff here for the right person.  You never know what you will find in Bikeman's Attic.
