Yup. that's right. If you hadn't heard when it was first talked about back around Sea Otter Avid is going downhill. Have no fear, we are talking about the discipline here not the strength of Avid's business. For the first time ever Avid is venturing into the DH/Freeride disc brake market with the new Code and from all reports it looks like they are going to make a big splash.
The Code is new from the ground up, not a new color scheme of an existing design. All the small details have been thought out to maximise performance in the most adverse conditions. They will feature cartridge bearing lever pivots for minimal friction. The aluminum brake pad contact point adjuster knob is center-mounted for reduced vulnerability. The two piece caliper is held together with four M6 bolts for greater stiffness. Four pistons provide longer braking surface and increased power. Center-mount stainless steel banjo provides multiple hose adjustment options. The pads will also be Avid's new organic compound.

There will be 185mm and 203mm versions for the front and rear. All are 6 bolt only. Stopping power is said to be incresed by 10-12% over the Juicy 7 with only 80g in added weight. MSRP is $280 per wheel. ETA right now is the middle of July. As soon as they are available we will let you know.
