The Weather Gods must race 'Cross because they bestowed upon us another awesome weekend for New England cyclocross racing. Here is how the B races went down for me....oh, before I go on - I need to mention that this weekend was my first outing on my new Challenge Grifo Clinchers and I absolutely LOVED them!

Saturday I got a great start and was sitting top 10 at the hurdles. Unfortunately, shortly after the hurdles I went down and watched as a colorful blur of riders swept past me and I was instantly in 25th after fixing a chain issue. I fought back the remainder of the race and finished in 19th. The course was awesome - just the right mix of speed, mud, climbing and speed. All things considered, I was happy with the finish - but without the crash, I think I could have placed in the top 10-15.

Sunday, same sort of story - I had a great start and entered the single track in 5th - right behind Lynne Bessette. About 1/2 way through lap one on a bumpy decline, my chain falls off so I have to stop to fix it only to see the "oh so familiar" blur of colors fly by me. I merged back in as fast as I could and again tried to fight back the rest of the race. The course on Sunday had a good amount of single track so passing was tough. BIG PROPS to the course designers as Sunday was even better than Saturday's course - super fast. I finished in 22nd, which I felt ok with considering the mechanical.

So, no series points for me (need top 15) but I am feeling confident that if I get this chain issue ironed out, I will be able to finish more towards the front.

See you all in Farmington, CT for Round 3!

Jerry
