Team Race Reports
Clear Fork Ski Resort
OMBC Championship Race
Butler, OH

Prior to this race I was somewhat excited because it was at a ski resort so I figured there would be plenty of climbing which would suit my style of riding. Upon arrival on Sunday morning I was quite pleased with all of the hills surrounding the area so I hoped for a good result. This race was more what I have been used to the last 7 years riding in New England; it was nice but also sad because I missed riding some good challenging terrain like this in New England. I had hoped to go head to head with my main rival but he was sick and not at the race. I wanted to go head to head because this was also the Ohio Championship race.

It was quite cool for the start with lots of mud from the previous night’s downpours. Right from the start I knew that know one was going to take the lead so I went to the front and went into the first hill on the front. I didn’t want to go full bore on the first climb so I went up at a reasonable pace. I figured that most of the Ohio flatlanders would not last long on a course like this and I was pretty much right. Only one guy hung on with me up the first climb; but knowing I had to ride 4 laps I wanted to ride a reasonable pace. After the first climb and the decent back down to the bottom to do it all over again on a different trail I was on my own and had about a 30 second lead. So I just kept riding at a reasonable pace the rest of the course.

At the start if the last lap, I thought that the guy in second was putting in a big final lap effort so I picked up the pace. At the bottom of the first climb where I had my initial gap was where I had been gauging how big the gap was; my concern that I was giving up time was unwarranted. I had already put another 20-30 seconds into the guy in second place. I kept a steady pace and cruised to the win easily.

Next weekend the Iceman in Michigan. It should be exciting!

Later,

Yale
