1992 Trek Bikes Catalog By this time Trek had become a fixture in the cycling industry with over 15 years of experience to back them up. 1992 marked the introduction of the 5000 series composite road bikes and the now extinct 900 series full suspension bike. The majority of the mountain bike line where tried and true rigid bikes, in fact only 3 bikes where spec'ed with suspension forks (2 of those where full suspension).
Thankfully the 9000 series dual suspension frame did not last long, although we still see a few come into the shop for repairs. Steel was the material of choice for most of the mountain and hybrid bikes (oh the good ole days) with a couple of bonded composite bikes thrown into the mix (8900 and 8700 models).

The road bikes featured the first OCLV fully bonded carbon lugs and main tubes with both a 5500 and the 5200 model. Sound familiar... Easton aluminum was the material of choice for the majority of the Trek road offerings in 1992 a time when everyone wanted the light weight coke can bikes. It was reassuring to see the durable, CroMo, 520 Touring bike included in the lineup. To this day the 520 has remained true to it's original form. A Bikeman all time favorite!
We love Trek and continue to support them here at our shop. In a way their history is also ours. Here is a look at the complete 1992 catalog in PDF format. It is a large file but well worth the wait.
