Mary Longhofer: Mountain Bike 2009 RACING AGE: 46 RESIDENCE: Portland, ME WHERE I GO MONDAY MORNING: OA Centers for Orthopaedics in Portland, ME. RACING DISCIPLINE(S) AND CATEGORY(S): Expert Mountain Bike # OF YEARS RACING: '09 will make 9, if you count the last 2 years on sabbatical due to hip surgeries. I have also dabbled in years past as a competitive runner and triathlete so competing has been in my blood for a lot of years. # OF BIKES OWNED: Salsa Moto Rapido MTB (my black racing stallion), Salsa Campeon road, Salsa Las Cruces 'cross bike, Surly 1x1 MTB, and an antique Schwinn Cruiser. Can one ever have too many bikes? I think not! FAVORITE BIKE: I love all my bikes and couldn't possibly choose a favorite. They all serve their intended purpose very well and allow me to have options and a variety of fun on two wheels. I feel really lucky to own so many amazing steeds. The Schwinn cruiser was the addition in '08. It's pretty fun and reminds of being a kid again. FAVORITE TRAIL OR RIDE: Locally, Bradbury Mountain State Park - it just gets better every year. Others: the Portland River Trail is just a short spin from my place and is a favorite, fun, reliable good time; Kingdom Trails in VT; Massabesic in NH. I also really enjoy a road ride while crankin' to some good tunes. NON-CYCLING INTERESTS/HOBBIES: XC skiing, snowshoeing, running, yoga, reading, movies, music, hanging with my friends, my cat, and KU Basketball PERSONAL NOTES & QUOTES: Even a bad day on the bike, is still a pretty good day. I love that sensation of clicking into the pedals and sinking down onto the saddle. When I’m on a sweet piece of single track slicing through woods, I feel invincible and a sense of total joy. I wish everyone could experience such a feeling. In regards to racing, I had yet another hip surgery in 2008 so last year didn't pan out too well for me in that department. I am really hoping this last one put me back together so I can get back out on the "race track" again. I'm hoping for more triathlons in my future in '09. I think cross training and mixing it up racing is what it's got to be all about for me. RIDE ON AND RIDE HAPPY! Do you have a passion for racing bikes? Want to be part of the Bikeman team?
