Rounds 3 and 4 of the Verge New England cyclocross series p/b Stans NoTubes and Cycle-Smart went down this past weekend in Northampton, MA at Look Memorial Park. Unfortunately, I was only able to race Saturday, so it was all or nothing. The course was really nice; a big grass field with long straights mixed with some mountain bike style woods riding, thrown in were a couple run ups and a set of barriers.
So if you're in Masters 35+ like I am, they combine you with the Junior 15-18 at this series. A little frustrating at times watching some young kid blow by you barely sucking any wind.
I started about four rows back. I had a good start, placing myself in the top fifteen. About midway through the second lap I noticed my rear tire pressure was getting low. At about the start of the third I was rolling on a flat tubular. I was little bummed about my situation, watching guys fly by. I made the pit, switched out my wheel and told myself there's nothing with the lantern rogue award. I managed to climb back several spots along the way. I enjoyed encouraging on fellow teammate Christian Baks while bringing up the rear.
Even though I didn't accomplish the goal I had set for this race, I had such a great time at this venue. If you ever get a chance next year to race at Look Memorial Park, do it. Also, good to see a decent Bikeman.com contingent.
