Team Bikeman -
As this was my first go at cyclocross, I rode my trusty Salsa Cab which gave me an advantage in the muddy turns, but it was difficult to carry at the barriers. My start position was right at the back but I got to the ST at about 15th place. I was able to hold the corners while a lot of the 'cross bikes were breaking loose and contrary to my expectations, I was able to dump other riders consistently on the long straightaway.
Seems like I caught a lot of breaks and had good passing opportunities when I needed them which allowed me to move up to about 9th place after lap 2. I got sloppy in the run-ups after a few laps but still held my position in the group. The six leaders built a pretty good advantage early and gapped the rest of us. I was able to pick off the rest of the racers and come within sight of the lead group, but time ran out. I'm happy with 7th place in my first 'cross race. Whoohooo! Warren put in a strong effort to finish 11th. This was the Utah State Championship, so the turn out was pretty good with 25 starters in the C category. I can't wait for next week!
