Page 1 of 5Day one of the three day event began with light snow and calm winds. Spirits were high as Alan, Chris and Todd warmed up for their mid day Masters' race. In the van, our largest group of racers, B men, dressed and slathered up with Greyhound Juice and downed hot coffee as they eagerly awaited the start of their race just two hours away. Then all hell broke loose. The light snow turned to driving rain, then ice, then snow. The wind stirred then howled and white out conditions descended while racers were on course refusing to give up their day. The conditions forced the promoters to cancel the rest of the day, leaving racers and spectators contemplating the schedule for the rest of the weekend.
Day two was beautiful and calm. Racers noted the rapidly changing course conditions as the temperature ticked up degree after degree. Our killer B's hit the course hard at 11:30 and had a fantastic time negotiating the huge field and challenging course designed by Tom Stevens. Post race we all enjoyed the comraderie of what turned out to be the largest gathering of Team Bikeman.com riders of the year. We enjoyed some warm and cold beverages and watched the Elite men hammer a well used course at sick sick speeds. When the day was done we adjourned to Steve's house for some good food and what else, Cross' videos.
Day three was dawned bright and balmy and delivered a mud fest on course for our last group of racers. Weary from all the fun, we held on to cheer for our riders and see the day through to the Liberty Cup Race and Women's Elite Race. At the close we said our goodbyes to the 2005 cycling season and like so many times before, loaded up and hit the highway north.
