Carver Bikes c38 Disc Brake Carbon Tubular Wheelset

Product is exempt from Free Shipping
Introducing the all NEW Carver Bikes c38 disc brake carbon tubular 700c wheelset. Light enough for climbing the hills on the road and strong enough for the demands of the CX course. Now with compatibility for the most modern disc brake equipped road and CX (and gravel, and gran fondo and well, you get it) bikes. Featuring a 38mm (c38) depth full carbon rim with matte UD carbon finish. (Sorry, no mixed depths front and rear.) These all new rims are wider than our previous version and are 23mm across the brake track. The wider rim provides more support and gluing area which translates into more comfort, more control and more stability. They are built with external nipples allowing for easy truing of the wheel while the tire is installed. A must have for tubular wheels during CX season. The wheels are laced 24 hole 2X front and rear using CN mac Aero 424 bladed black spokes (think Sapim CX Ray) and black anodized alloy nipples.

At the center of the Carver wheels are the all new, smooth rolling Novatec D771/D772 convertible hubs in black with alloy axles and an alloy freehub body. These hubs are fully convertible between 100mm QR, 12x100mm thru axle and 15x100 thru axle in the front and 10x135mm QR, 10x135 thru axle and 12x142 thru axle in the rear. (One configuration comes included with the each wheel, additional adaptors available separately). We can re-dish our rear wheels for you to accomodate Cannondale Ai offset 12x142 thru axle. For Specialized owners who have been left out in the cold with their abandonment of the SCS system we have you covered. We have a Novatec SCS compatible hub built specifically for us. It is ready for native SCS from the get go with no need for special derailleur hangers or modified cassettes. We also have replacement axles and end caps for this new hub that are compatible with non-SCS frames so your SCS wheels are not married to your SCS bike. It is based on the same platform as our existing hub so it uses all the same bearings and freehub parts. All hubs feature replaceable sealed cartridge bearings and a choice of Shimano/SRAM freehub body, SRAM XD 1x11/12 driver or SRAM XD-R 1x12 driver which also have replaceable sealed cartridge bearings. The wheels also come complete with black anodized skewers for QR configurations. (No thru axles are included for thru axle configurations.)

Along with the new matte UD finish we have also updated our graphics. We offer our new Carver script logo in gloss black for a modern, discrete look that we call ''ghost.'' If you desire a more color keyed look to pimp your ride we also have white, red, blue, orange, green and magenta. Sticker kits are available seperatly if you want to change your look down the road.

Designed for road or cyclocross our carbon wheels are a fast, stiff, performance option that can take you to the top of the podium on race day and still rack up the miles on training days. Team Bikeman riders have already ridden the Carver Bikes carbon wheelsets to podium finishes in races all around New England.

Good wheel, Great Price...But not Perfect, 11.1.2013
Reviewer: Craig M Burgess (Edmonds, WA)

These are very nice wheels at a great price & I would buy them again in a heartbeat. That being said, I have had a couple of issues. I will preface this by saying the issues did not show until the wheels had about 10 CX races and many hours of training on them. I have a set of TUFO Flexus Cubis 32mm tires mounted and have no problems with them rolling off. I weigh 165 and usually run around 25lbs PSI in front and 28 in rear. At my tenth race I had a spoke nipple fracture on front. Luckily, I had spare wheel and was able to ride. During the race I had a nipple on the rear wheel fracture. I did finish, but later another nipple let go on the front. I had slightly trued the wheels, but the spoke tensions were even and in spec. Rather than just fix the broken nipples I replaced them all with brass for my own piece of mind. Also I do not want to peel and re-glue tires again. During nipple repair I noticed the bearings on the rear wheel were rough and making noise, so I replaced those. They didn't have ceramics in stock, but I will probably do both wheels with those in the off season. It has been a mixed bag this season as far as weather and courses. Lot of mud, sand, roots and other fun stuff that makes cross great but plays havoc on gear.

Carver Bikes c38 Disc Brake Carbon Tubular Wheelset, 11.5.2012
Reviewer: Mike Rowell (Bedford, MA)

After a brief, failed go with tubeless, both my wife and I have been racing on the Carver disc tubular wheelset all season in New England. Out of the box the wheels looked great and very professional. The rims were true and showed no visible signs of deformation due to spoke tension that some lower priced carbon wheels do. The bearing were smooth and the rotors mounted to the hubs without requiring shimming. They also have a recessed track for the base-tape seam bulge, molded into the center of the rim. We have numerous races on the wheels in a variety of conditions and terrain ranging from fast and dry to deep, sucking mud. We have also seem rooty and rocky courses in addition to fast and smooth. The wheels have handled all tests so far and have stayed true, with no spoke loosening or detensioning. The bearings are still running smooth and there is no side play showing up at all. The freehub body still freewheels perfectly with no hesitation or drag. For the money, this is an excellent race worth wheelset and one of the only non-custom builds actually available at this point. We are very happy with the wheelset as well as the service of Bikeman in general
