ESC Maxxis Enduro #1 2022
by Jonathan Salinger
This was a great race with 6 stages - 3 on the ski hill side with steep gnarly chutes and jagged quartz - and 3 on the DH-Flow side with drops, jumps and slab - Over 300 racers showed.. To keep the racers moving/prevent lines at each stage, start times were split. The faster classes (Pro men/women, eBike, and all male classes under age 39 starting stages in 4-5-6-1-2-3 order and the traditionally slower groups beginning at 1-2-3-4-5-6
I raced my new Transition Repeater in the Motorex eBike class - This open class had 16 entries, including a former national champion and pro DH racer (Willem Cooper - who clocked the fastest time of the day) .. With a racing age of 60 years old - I was the oldest races in the class - and finished 11th (not fast, but not last)
The first transition was a LONG climb up Tower Hill Rd then through a gate and old stonewall to the beginning of Stage 4.. Stage 5 was quite long had a serious time-burning climb mid stage (you can hear me out of breath in the video, and I’m on an eBike!) - before dropping completely gassed racers into the hardest and most crashed section Stage 6 was a fun/crazy connection of technical rock gardens, rock drops, gap jumps and a huge steep roller into a ladder bridge launch/blind jump near the end of the stage.. We then headed across the street to the (defunct) Ski Hill Side which required 3 steep climbs to the top of each of the last three stages (this is where I really appreciated racing e-bike class - it makes stage transfers like playing golf - with a cart) Stage 3 was fun! *check out my body-cam footage of all stages.
Here are the results.
Here is the Pinkbike Race Report of the event with video.
