Northampton 2021

by John Sumner • November 08, 2021

After missing the 2020 race, I found myself on the frosty starting line in the second row. For me, 2020 and 2021 was more dedicated to gravel riding/ racing than any other form of racing. I found I have the strength but not the horsepower off the front and others who have done a lot of cross racing this season definitely had an edge on me.

However, I had endurance and was able to hold my own and sprint on the straights. Knowing the course and having experience I knew how to handle the turns to stay upright and quick. This prevented me from slipping into the back of the pack. I wound up 26 out of 108 on day one and 27/115 on day two. I sprinted for top 25 on day one but unfortunately didn't get over the line 1st. I beat the guy that beat me on day one over the line on day 2.

It was great to get out and race again, you forget how much you miss something when you don't have it for a year.

NOHO has been the higlight on my schedule and it's impressive that they've been around for 30 years!
