24 Hours of Great Glen Solo SS Great Glen Trails, Pinkham Notch, NH Aug 9-10, 2008
I missed last year's race due to some broken bones and whatnot last summer, but I made it to the Race this year. I was doing the Solo Singlespeed thing with fellow Team Bikeman.com rider Sven Cole and another of our friends Abe. I figured I was going to be riding more so with Sven than Abe as he had some crazy idea about actually racing and competing. The weather here in New England this summer has been somewhat damp. Almost to biblical proportions. I have a half built ark in the yard if that tells ya anything. As a result the singletrack sections of the racecourse were expected to be a mess.
Looking back over the 2008 24 Hours of Great Glen, many lessons were taught. It might be that this was my first long race of the year, spending most of the other races this year on a 20km Wednesday night race series. Or if I was thinking this year would be easier as a result of racing on a double single team.
The Solitude Mid-Week Series was back, bigger and better for its 2nd year. An additional week of racing and an expert category was added along with cash pay-outs 5 deep instead of 3 deep. This was very appealing to me since I finished in 4th place last year.
