I have been mentally preparing for a 24 hour solo for years. I did an 8-hour at Idyllwild last year and was glad I did not pony up for the 24 hour. Chicken and cheap. This year I jumped in both feet first. I was still cheap. I entered early, for only $240. What a deal; $10 an hour. For once the race is more expense than the gas to get there…..do not know if I should be happy or sad.

On The Rocks at French Creek
M.A.S.S. Enduro #1
5 Hour Race
French Creek State Park, PA

Approaching the Start/Finish Line after Lap 1
Time for Mid Atlantic Super Series Enduro #1 at French Creek State Park in eastern PA (where they talk funny and don't say thing's like "yinz", "crick" or "pop"). This was to be a 6 hour event that would have racers doing as many laps on the rocky 11.5 miles course as they could. The course had about 1,800' of climbing per lap and a big extra helping of rocky east coast single track. The race would end up being cut to 5 hours due to the severe weather that soaked the trails the day before. That didn't make the race any less difficult (or fun!) for sure! The don't call the race "on the rocks" at French Creek because of it's uber buff single track, that's for damn sure!

Commuter Files

The perfect ride. It's a little routine I go through when I have to take the short route home to at least make it interesting. Some days, I just don't feel like riding home. It's a strange thing but by the end of the day at work sometimes, I just want to crash and chill out with a beer. But one thing that I've found that's nearly unattainable on my way home is this "perfect ride."
