 Kirk Turner: Mountain Bike

2007 RACING AGE: 19

RESIDENCE: Harrison, ME

WHERE I GO MONDAY MORNING: Somewhere to eat, then Depends on the month, and the country! Alternative senior year in high school, six weeks in Chile, and then six weeks in Spain. Then home to Maine for the summer, and eventually college somewhere in the fall…

RACING DISCIPLINE(S) AND CATEGORY(S): Pro Mountain Bike, U23 for Nationals; Pro Cyclocross, U23 for Nationals, Pro Super-D and Pro Short Track.

# OF YEARS RACING: 4

# OF BIKES OWNED: 6+ - Moto Rapido, Mt. Fuji hard tail mountain, Giant Anthem mountain, Cannondale XR1000 Cyclocross, Kona Roast hardtail freeride, Fuji Roubaix road bike.

FAVORITE BIKE: Tie between the Anthem, and the Roast...

FAVORITE TRAIL OR RIDE: Backcountry traverse outside of Steamboat springs Colorado, and the Pleasant Mountain Ridge trail here in ME.

NON-CYCLING INTERESTS/HOBBIES: Humm…. hiking, wakeboarding, photography, skiing XC and DH, trail running, listening to good music, snow shoeing, driving, mountaineering, art, ice climbing, cliff and tree jumping, working on my 1952 Jeep Willys, fly fishing, traveling to foreign countries!

PERSONAL NOTES & QUOTES: So I’m headed to a place this fall; you might have heard of it. They call it COLLEGE, and I can’t wait. Not sure which one I’m headed to, but it almost doesn’t matter, because I will have my bikes with me. I love riding and the people it attracts, and I can’t wait to explore a new place. I turned pro this winter straight out of Jr-X and I’m very proud of that, and I’m pumped to start racing with the big boys (even if it means starting at the back of the pack). I hope to make it to Worlds one day; an Xterra is on the horizon too, followed somewhere by an Ironman! Thanks to my family for everything they have done for-and-with me! In life it’s the little things we enjoy that sometimes matter the most: cute fuzzy animals (especially the spastic ones), penguins, fast single track, Mate (pronounced Ma-Tay: an Amazing South American tea), salsa and chips, granola, hugs, Sharpies, Spanish speaking countries, mountains, snow, smooth water, and sunny days! And never forget: “ Dream big, and dare to fail”
