Guy's Neshaminy Classic MASS #4 Langhorne, PA 6/17/2007
As usual, the course at the Neshaminy Classic was pretty fast, but not as Roadie friendly as past years. The promoters cut some new trail that was really twisty with lots of bridges, logs, and even a few sewer pipes. NICE!
Experts did 4 X 6.5 mile laps. There were 30 starters in my age group (19 -34). We went off at 1:00 and the heat was just getting HOT at 90 degrees plus. After a short prologue, I was at about tenth place going into the singletrack. Felt OK and pretty much stayed here for the rest of the race, although the last two laps were TOUGH. The heat combined with the constant "foot on the gas" course made for a nice test of strength. My lap times were 37, 39, 42, 42. Would like to have plateaued at 39. The harsh conditions of the day were evidenced by the above average attrition rate. That is, only 17 out of 30 starters finished the race. Anyhow, I was happy to finish in 9th place.
