The 24 hours of Adrenalin race at Hurkey Creek was held last weekend. The race started at noon on Saturday and ended on noon Sunday. Yes, riders go all night, rain or shine. The weather at Hurkey was on the cool side with a threat of rain all day Saturday. The L.A. Basin was hit with a inch of rain Saturday so we were all hoping it would not follow us to the race course.

Over the last several years we have tried running 4-5 man teams and 8-10 man teams. So to put a new twist on the event we decided to ride the solo 8 hour race on single speeds. Team rider Roger (Tinker) Jorgensen, close friend Mark (Gung-a-din) Goldsmith, and Shannon (Knevil) Hirsch rode the event. I was still back to handing out water bottles and cleaning gear. I just had shoulder surgery from my crash back in March at the Keysville Classic.

The course was in the best shape that we have ever seen it. The front was still steep, the middle single track thru the meadow was super, and the downhill at the end was fast and dusty as always. Lap times even on single speeds for the 9.2 mile course were all good. Shannon did a face plant the first lap and was wise to take a breather. Roger and Mark each got in 5 laps before the beer in the cooler forced them to stop.

Hey, we all had a great time, had a chance to talk with old friends, and make some new ones. Rode our bikes, ate good, drank good, chased my dogs around and built a roaring camp fire. Hey guys, life is still good on the lost coast.
