Amesbury Cross Amesbury, MA September 30, 2007
 | | Photo courtesy Paul Weiss Photo/Video | This race was another fine example of a fun, well-run, local New England cyclocross event. The barriers were less than 40 cm and I guess there really wasn’t any pavement, but it was fun and adventuresome. The course started out with lots of turns and meandering under the canopy of a tall pine forest. There were lots of roots and I definitely wish I had been using tubular tires.
Then there was a fast, straight descent that U-turned up an old rock staircase. Some guys were riding up the side of the stairs, but I decided to run the whole thing – down the hill and up the stairs. That worked out well – especially on the first lap. Oh, there was a nice little wooden bridge, lots more roots, and then some long and flat grass sections to give the power riders a chance to show their stuff. There was only one set of barriers, but some of the natural obstacles caused a lot of mayhem. There was an 8-10 foot step uphill with a fence at the top that required you to turn. I thought it was easy, but I saw lots of guys doing forwards and backwards somersaults on it.
My goals were about the same as last weekend – just finish, don’t flat, and don’t get lapped. I met those. Hopefully, I can just keep hanging on and get myself into racing form again. I saw fellow bikeman racer, Mike Hoover, there. He looked like he was having a good race. Sorry no photos again, I’ll have to work on that in the future.
