Utah Cyclocross #3 Saturday October 13, 2007 Rocky Mountain Raceway Magna, Utah
 | | click to enlarge | The third race in the Utah Cyclocross schedule was held the same weekend as the 24 Hours of Moab. I was hoping for a great result with a few of the heavies missing, but it turned out just OK. There was a little rain on the drive out but by the start of the 35+ B race, things were pretty dry.
The course looked like it would be easy with two passes through the infield of the oval track and a wide path around the outside. Turns out there was nowhere to catch your breath and the infield sections were soupy and slow.

I didn’t really care about the sweater, but I didn’t want the series leader to get too far ahead. I stayed on his wheel off the start and was pinned immediately. He kept gassing it through the entire first lap while I decided to ease off a bit.
The effort cost him as mid way through lap two I passed him and got a nice gap. At this point I was in third place and riding well. As the race wore on I got a little tired and “hot lap” found a buddy to work with and they passed me. Crap. I ate it in the gravel on lap 4 and struggled with the run up on the backside of the arena but held on for 5th place. Hangin’ tough at #2 in the points.
