 Wissahickon Cross UCI-C2, MAC#2 10/21/2007
This was race #2 for the weekend. Given the really close proximity to Granogue, most of the suspects from yesterday were out for part two. The weather was unseasonably hot at 75F. The course at Ludwig's Corner is really fast with few moments to use any mountain biking skills. With the exception of a twisty section of sand, the signature Circle of Doom (spirals to center then spirals you out opposite direction) and the barriers, it was pretty much a sprint the whole way..
The Elite Maters went off at 12:15. Much like yesterday I was at the back for the start. This time I couldn't seem to make much ground moving up before the tape. Followed the masses through the sand pit. The it was full steam ahead and those that had it took off - FAST. I ended up just hanging on in the back. I just don't do that well when it comes to constant gassing on flat stuff. A few riders passed me and I passed a few riders. I ended up sprinting for 43rd! Hah! Anyway finished 43rd out of 54 starters. All said it was a great weekend of CX - great weather, great spectating, and tough racing.
