Dave Barr: Mountain Bike, Cyclocross, Road

2008 RACING AGE: 41

RESIDENCE: Ayer, MA

WHERE I GO MONDAY MORNING: Bruker BioSpin Corp. (a scientific instrument company), where I’m an applications scientist in the magnetic resonance division.

RACING DISCIPLINE(S) AND CATEGORY(S): Road, Cat3; MTB, Expert; Cyclocross, Cat3

# OF YEARS RACING: 5

# OF BIKES OWNED: Way too many…main race rigs are a Salsa Dos Niner, Kona Jake, and a “Nashbar-framed” road bike (hey don’t laugh…I really do race that thing).

FAVORITE BIKE: Salsa Dos Niner

FAVORITE TRAIL OR RIDE: Local MTB, Leominster State Forest; Local Road, any of the many road rides in the Mt. Wachusett region of Massachusetts; Non-local, Kingdom Trails, VT or any road or MTB ride that my brother in-laws (also racers) from Colorado try to punish me on when I am visiting (and, of course, have only been at altitude for one day.)

NON-CYCLING INTERESTS/HOBBIES: Skate Skiing, Learning anything new, Fixing stuff.

PERSONAL NOTES & QOUTES: As with everything in life, bike racing can be about the “Journey…or the Destination” For me, racing and training is more about the Journey. Not to say I don’t’ care about placing well, but improving my fitness and competitive level every year (and being super-healthy as a side effect)…that’s what is most important to me.

FAVORITE QUOTE AFTER A BAD RACE DAY: “Listen carefully my grasshopper…To try and fail is far, far better…than to not try….and succeed.”
