Despite the fact that these are Alivio (oh no!) they do a nice job. For new 8-speed rapidfires these days you pretty much have a choice between XTs and Alivios. The Alivio nests much better with non-Shimano brake levers (I'll never give up my speed dials!) and the under-bar location protects the gear display. Cable replacement is a snap (much easier than XTs - no tiny screws to lose) and they work well. I switched to an XTR for my right pod for a while, but it just doesn't fit as well against the brake levers. And to anyone who is concerned about durability I say get two - they're cheap!
